8 – Rainy morning, but clear’d up during the day with Wind at N.W. Went to Town, return’d to Dinner, and afterwards took Mrs. T. to Furley. One of my Merino Ewes had a Lamb today, which is very unexpected, and by no means desirable, it is a Ram. D. Fitzhugh came out in the evg.

This 24 hours Commences with moderate Breezes and Cloudy Weather. At 5 PM saw a sail bearing SW by W. Made sail in chase at 8 PM lost sight of the chase in the dark.Middle part light winds and cloudy weather.
Latter part same. Nothing in sight at 4 AM—At 11 AM saw 2 sail. Gave chase, soon discovered them to be the Frigate and Brig & left them & hauled to the Southward.

7th Aug Sunday – Warm sultry day. Dan. Fitzhugh din’d with us, afterwards I rode with him to Camp, and was introduced to Col. Ragain, who is a fine looking Soldier –

The first part of these 24 hours commences with Moderate breezes and cloudy Weather. At 10 PM saw a sail Bearing ESE steering to the Westward. Hauled close on the wind: Midnight tucked ship in chase of him. At 10 AM made him out to be a Frigate with the top of his Main Topmast and having a Brig in tow with the top of her Mainmast. Hauled our wind and left them. No observations this day.

6th – Cloudy day, but no Rain, Wind N.E. Went to Town, din’d with Lloyd Rogers at Mrs. Wests~ Dan. Fitzhugh came out in the evg. Paid Vache $12 in full for last month.

5th Commenc’d raining at day light and continued four hours, Wind N.E. Went to Town, return’d to Dinner. Sent 15 Bushels Rye to Mill and had ground for Horse Feed – Tom, the Mule Shod – Bot 2 [C.?] Corn Meal on the Road. Cool evg. & cloudy, Wind N.E.

Made her out to be an American Privateer, did not speak her.Latter Part, moderate Breezes and cloudy weather with light rains.
